(1) Initial registration

 Registration of foreign residents

When a foreigner enters Japan and stays in Japan for 90 days or more, he or she has to apply for alien registration.

If a foreigner is under 16, a relative applies for registration instead.

 Alien registration of foreign residents in Kakegawa is handled at the Alien Registration Window, Citizens Section, in Kakegawa City Office.

 Foreign residents of 16 or over always have to carry their alien registration certificates which are issued at the City Office.

Documents required for the registration

1. Passport
2. 2 photographs (4.5cm X 3.5cm, taken no more than 6 months ago, without headgear and background) *photographs are not necessary for foreign residents under 16.

 Registration of newborn babies of foreign residents

When a child is born of foreign parents, the parents have to receive a birth certificate from the hospital to apply for alien registration of the baby.

Issue of alien registration certificates

 An alien registration certificate is issued immediately after the registration of a foreign resident under 16, but it takes about 3 weeks to issue a certificate for a foreign resident of 16 or over.

 In this case, an exchange ticket with the issue period of the certificate is given to the applicant.

The applicant or relative has to come to the City Office again within the specified period of issue, bringing the ticket and the applicant’s passport, to receive the certificate.

(2) Registration after moving from other cities

Foreigners have to register new residential address after moving from other cities in Japan.  Please come to the City Hall for the address change just like with the new registration.

You will need:

1. Alien Registration Card
2. Document which indicates new address

(3) Moving within City of KakegawaForeigners have to register new residential address after moving within the city of Kakegawa. Please come to the City Hall for the address change just like with the new registration.
